Now that hurricane Sandy's blustery days are over and I've heard from all my northeastern family and friends, I don't feel so guilty about the phenomenal weather Dallas has been having. Sun shining, beautiful breeze, and hardly any clouds in the sky - literally the perfect weekend for the grand opening of Klyde Warren Park. They've been calling the park Dallas' new jewel, and I couldn't agree more. This park is spectacular. Every inch of it has been planned to perfection. It's now open every day from 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. You need to go! Check out the daily events and be sure to visit the park while the weather is still gorgeous.

This Sunday is extra special because I've got a fabulous and super special post for y'all this morning - my very first wedding feature! This amazing DIY affair is incredibly near and dear to me, because the oh so beautiful bride just happens to be one of my all time favorite people in the world. I've known Sadaf for over ten years and I can honestly say I wouldn't be the person I am without her love and guidance. So, it goes without saying that it was an incredible honor to stand next to her on her wedding day. Now, I might be a tad biased - but this wedding was beyond GORGEOUS! Every little detail, every paper flower, even the tiny red and orange confetti was carefully designed by Sadaf and Matthew. Talk about a labor of love! Today they are celebrating their one year anniversary and moving into their new little home. I couldn't be happier for them! Happy Anniversary loves! From the Bride... It was really important for Matthew and I to have a wedding that reflected who we truly were, trendy, creative and laid back. We both love origami and thought it would be cool to incorporate paper products as our wedding theme and boy did we run with it! We made paper flowers, bouquets, boutonnieres, candle lanterns, and more! We chose to have the bridesmaids in short dresses and the groomsmen without jackets to again set the stage for a more informal event. The ceremony included American tradition where we wrote our own vows and an Iranian Aghd. The reception was cocktail party style with hor dourves drinks, desserts and dancing! We're big foodies and love to cook so we baked our own dessert bar with the exception of the pink champagne cake. The grand opening of Klyde Warren Park is this weekend! If you live or work around Woodall Rodgers Freeway, you've been watching the progression of this park being built for months. I am super duper excited about this new park. It was built over a recessed eight-lane freeway, thus creating an incredibly unique green space for all of Dallas to enjoy. During this weekend's grand opening, Dallasites can partake in oodles of fabulously free activities - including dog training, a skyline tour, dance performances, storytelling for kids, and yoga! If that's not enough, check out these other local events:
A perfectly free weekend at the DMA. Join artists Marianne Newsom + Sunny Sliger at the Nasher for a new art installment. A picnic kind of Friday evening at Sammons Park with a live broadcast of AIDA. A yummy bash serving over 1000 pounds of BBQ at Blues, Bandits & BBQ Head to The Crow Collection for free artsy activities. Celebrate homecoming on the hilltop with the SMU mustangs. Have a lovely weekend Dallasities! xoxo Some of my favorite things: 1. The DMA 2. The Stoneleigh Hotel and Spa 3.The Nasher 4. The Dowdy Studio 5. Charlie Palmer at The Joule 6. Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas
Today I am linking up with The Vintage Modern Wife and The Luckiest in Love for Pinspired Style. I'm literally addicted to Pinterest - it's a plethora of gorgeous inspiration, and I have pinned bundles upon bundles of fabulous things. Living in Dallas is always an assortment of uncertain weather, so I've been trying to merge my Summer Pinterest Board and my Fall Pinterest Board to create an outfit suitable for Dallas Days. The outfit I chose for Pinspired Style is one of my new favorites - a pair of colorful purple denim pants paired with my favorite gingham button down, inspired by Emily Schuman's look over on Cupcakes and Cashmere. I loved how she paired her pastel purple pants with neutral polka dots - I immediately pinned the look and put my own little spin on it. It's perfect for the summer/fall transition and super comfortable for walking around downtown! Thanks for letting me link up ladies! xoxo SHIRT: J-Crew, PURPLE DENIM: H&M, MESSENGER BAG: gifted (very similar here), SUNGLASSES: Kate Spade, SHOES: Gianni Bini (via: Dillard's) RING: gifted from Spain
Super sad day in Dallas. This morning, shortly after ten our beloved Big Tex went up in flames. For 60 years he welcomed visitors into the fairgrounds - with his tremendous smile, booming voice, and mammoth stature. Now, all that is left is a skeletal frame of our iconic cowboy. The images from the fire are incredibly heartbreaking and have left a huge hole in my Dallas heart. Even though The State Fair of Texas will remain open for its final weekend - the area around Big Tex will be closed, definitely dampening the frivolity of the fair. He will be missed like an old friend.
Every year I venture to the fair. And as always, I have such an amazing time. I am so happy that I was able to see Big Tex in all of his glory one last time. I know they will rebuild and he'll be bigger and better next year - but I'll miss the old Tex and his memorable style. It goes without saying that Dallas offers some seriously scrumptious beef - but I'll be honest, I'm not a huge burger fan. I do however L.O.V.E tuna burgers, and it just so happens that around the corner from my apartment is Chop House Burger, which has an amazing Ahi Tuna Burger. Piled with sushi grade tuna, wasabi mayo, pickled ginger, arugula and a nori chip (a dehydrated pressed sheet of seaweed), this is literally the best "burger" I've ever tasted.
Eat it. xoxo Once upon a time I really disliked antique malls, flea markets, and thrift stores. As a child I found them cluttered and dirty - which is odd because I didn't grow in a house that implanted that idea in my head. As a matter of fact, my mother is the BEST bargain shopper I've ever met. She just has a knack for finding hidden treasures and I guess it took 20+ years for me to truly appreciate the fabulousness that is antique malls, flea markets, and thrift stores. I stumbled across Lula B's shortly after moving downtown. Cool Stuff for Cool People? Check and double check. Located in Deep Ellum, Lula B's is filled with vintage loveliness and I could probably spend hours wandering through this two-storied gem.
xoxo Yesterday, I celebrated the thirtieth birthday of my darling friend Florence - who is behind the A.MAZ.ING blog, Made by Firenze. It is a completely fabulous personal blog about food, crafts, and inspiring "eunoia" - which translated means beautiful thinking. And Florence is the epitome of beautiful. Read her blog, it could not be cuter.
Her birthday dinner proved to be a simply sincere soiree. Recognizing Florence's love of Europe and stripes, we were all invited to Toulouse Café and Bar for dinner, and we were all asked to wear our favorite striped confection. How adorable is that?! So, I put on my favorite striped maxi dress, layered it with a sweater, and headed to a French bistro right here in Dallas. I'll be honest, I've never been to France - but I have this romantic vision of old chateaus, cobblestone streets, macaroons, and sweet little cafes all swirling with opulence and modernity. Toulouse was everything I wanted it to be - the menu, the adorable patio (perfect for people watching), and the delightful atmosphere. It was the perfect place to celebrate Florence's birthday. To another thirty years! xoxo There isn't anything I love more than super chic historic hotels. I love all the grandeur, opulence, and luxurious details . Dallas has an abundance of beautiful hotels including some simply marvelous historic hotels.
So while in San Antonio we took it upon ourselves to tour some of the city's hotels - which was so much fun! My favorite among them was The Fairmount San Antonio. Built in 1906, this landmark hotel was absolutely delightful. I loved all the pretty chairs , the gorgeous chandeliers, and charming courtyard! And talk about adorable - they have a dog, named Luke, that lives at the hotel full time! Check out the doggy bed in the picture below! xoxo |
